Petitions against early Black Friday start arrive at Target

MINNEAPOLIS – A petition of 190,000 signatures has been delivered to Target Corp. asking the retailer to drop its plans to open at midnight on Black Friday.

The Star Tribune reports that Target employee Seth Coleman delivered the paper petition with 190,000 signatures in three plastic Target shopping bags on Monday.

Black Friday 2011: LivingSocial announces half-off deals

LivingSocial, the D.C.-based daily deals site, is prepping for the biggest shopping week of the season and Monday announced several national deals in honor of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

(LivingSocial is run by Tim O’Shaughnessy, who is Post. Co. Chairman and chief executive Don Graham’s son-in-law.)

The company revealed it would be offering half-off deals with companies including Verizon Wireless, Office Max, Electronic Arts, Sketchers, BlueFly and Skype. Other deal partners listed on the company’s Web site include online clothing retailer threadless, decal and poster company Fathead and flower delivery service FTD.

$4.23 a day: On the timing of a Black Friday iPad 2 purchase

We lack the proper sample size for true statistical accuracy, but based on the number of days into a new year Apple released its first two iPads, we can take the average of April 4 (92 days in) and March 11 (69 days in), and guess that the iPad 3 will arrive 81 days into 2012. That would be March 22. That would also mean a 377-day life cycle for the iPad 2.

Bourbon to host post-Thanksgiving show, collect canned food donations

The day after Thanksgiving is usually a day for Black Friday shopping, football, eating leftovers and once again claiming fatigue after eating turkey.

But instead of sleeping after the leftovers this year, there's a more entertaining way to spend the day. The Bourbon Theatre, 1415 O St., is hosting Cold Turkey 2011 from 3 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday. This event includes a fundraiser and food drive for the Food Bank of Lincoln.

Walmart Black Friday Ad Includes Blue Nintendo Wii

Walmart’s Black Friday ad has revealed that the company plans to offer customers a chance to purchase a rare blue edition of the Nintendo Wii.

The Limited Edition console appears to be the cheaper Wii version which does not include GameCube support while offering the same blue coloring previously used just for an add-on Wiimote. Included with the console is one matching wiiMote and Nunchuk however a gaming bundle has not been announced.

LivingSocial goes national with Black Friday deals

NEW YORK—Here's one way to avoid getting trampled by bargain-hunting hordes knocking down store doors on Black Friday: Online deals service LivingSocial is unveiling a slew of bargains for the holidays that are just a couple of mouse clicks away.

Anthony Hardwick says he resents working at Target Corp. on Thanksgiving and has garnered more than 37,000 signatures on an online protest petition.

The best Black Friday deals can be found online.

And this year, one large online retailer is getting in on Black Friday deals. Amazon.com is hosting an event, called the Amazon Black Friday Countdown sale. Every Friday starting Oct. 29 until November 19, Amazon has
deals on select electronics, video games, and other items at sale prices.1

Examples of these Amazon deals are: The Roku HD-XR Netflix streaming box for $59.99. This product is regularly priced at $99.99. The second amazing deal is the 55-inch Toshiba 55UX600U LED HDTV at the Gold Box Price of $1,199.99, regularly priced at $2,399.99.2

How to Get There

Navigate your internet browser to Amazon.com, then click on the link at the top of the page titled, "Today's Deals". The screen your browser then lands on is the Gold Box: Countdown to Black Friday page, with the slogan "New Deals. Every Day." underneath.

On the right half of the page, you will see a section labeled, "Lightning Deals" with time slots listed below. At each respective time, a product is listed, and will sell at the deal price until sold out. On the left half of the page, you will see a picture of the product being sold and the bottom line number in red is the "Gold Box Price".
